Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

IPL treatment targets facial thread veins, red spots, rosacea and port wine stains. A type of laser, it works by breaking down blood vessels under the skin, which are then absorbed by the body, fading the blemish.

Perfect your complexion

at Brighton Beautiful

IPL is safe and effective, using only short bursts of light energy at a time. It doesn’t damage any of the surrounding tissues, and treatment is typically quick and simple to carry out, sometimes taking as little as 15 minutes.

Freckles, sun damage and age spots – signs of ageing caused by the sun – can also benefit from IPL treatment, resulting in more even skin tone.

Your questions answered

About IPL TREATMENT

  • Does IPL hurt?

A cooling gel is applied before and after treatment to help keep any discomfort to a minimum. Most patients describe the sensation as little more than a hot pin prick.

  • What can I expect from my results?

A reduction or removal of blemishes, such as spider veins and red spots. The treatment helps to fade these for a more even-toned appearance. However, it’s possible for future blemishes to form, for instance from sun damage. Finally, a few sessions may be needed to achieve your desired results.

  • Are there any risks?

Redness and swelling are common, and the skin may feel sensitive, as if sunburnt. Other risks and side-effects, such as blistering and infection, are possible, but rare.

  • Is there anything I should avoid?

Jackie recommends sun protection following treatment, as skin will be sensitive. Treatments such as tanning, waxing and chemical peels should also be avoided. Jackie will be happy to talk you through aftercare in more detail at your consultation.

  • What other treatments could I try?

It depends on what you’re trying to treat. For example, those with rosacea may benefit from a skincare programme, while signs of ageing, such as sun spots, could benefit from chemical peels.
